Stop At: Iglesia de Sarchi, Main Street, Sarchi 21201 Costa Rica

Situated in the northern lowlands of Costa Rica, the impressive Arenal Volcano is a magnificent natural wonder. It is located in La Fortuna of San Carlos, providing countless visitors with the opportunity to witness volcanic activity; such as the white plumes of smoke that emanate from the conical-shaped behemoth on clear days.

En route to the Volcano, the expedition makes a stop at the famous town of Sarchí, known as the birthplace of Costa Rica’s artisans. During your visit to this town, you will get to see many of the handcrafts that Costa Rica has to offer, as well as the possibility of feasting your eyes on the world’s largest ox cart. The cart is made of wood (cedar) and is decorated with vibrant colours using traditional and intricate patterns. The journey will then continue along a road that traverses plantations of different types of crops (including pineapple farms, mango groves, ornamental plants, and cattle ranches) until arriving at the small town of La Fortuna. You will stop for lunch at a local restaurant with a nice view of the Arenal Volcano.

After lunch, you will get to visit one of the best hot springs in the region. You will enjoy the rejuvenating effects of the local thermal waters. If you wish to receive an optional massage or any other special treatment, these must be reserved in advance to ensure availability. Tabacón Hot springs feature five different springs spread throughout the property, with temperatures ranging from 25°C (77°F) to 50°C (122°F). There are two main branches of the thermal river that flow through the gardens, as well as one cold river spring that flows down from the rainforest.

Before heading back to San José, dinner will be served at a local restaurant.
