Stop At: Rio Celeste, Parque Nacional Volcan Tenorio, Tenorio Volcano National Park Costa Rica
The departure will be around 5:00 a.m. from different points established in the main provinces: San Jose and Alajuela. With the whole group, we will go to the breakfast which will be approximately an hour and thirty minutes after leaving the Central Valley. After this time and having taken the energies that good breakfast gave us, we will continue our journey towards Bijagua de Upala, which is a small town located very close to our destination. Therefore, around 9:30 a.m. it is estimated that we are arriving at the Tenorio Volcano National Park where the respective registration will be made and we will prepare to start the guided tour to the different attractions that the place offers us. Once we are ready and with all the indications to enter the trail we will start the 3-km walk, where we will observe the natural beauties that the park offers us. The trail passes through the main points of tourist attraction and scientific of the place.
Currently the volcano is inactive, but has a wide variety of flora and fauna, many of these species are in danger of extinction such as the Danta, tepezcuintle and puma, so hopefully we can observe them. Our first visit will be with the Celeste River Waterfall, which with its 20 meters high gives us a great scenic beauty. Next, we will go to the viewpoint, which will be the highest point of the trail, where you will see three of the five craters that the Tenorio Volcano has, Tenorio 1, Tenorio 2 and Montezuma (if of course the weather conditions allowed it) Later we will take the chance to visit the Blue Lagoon and a few meters from this beautiful path, after crossing two wooden bridges we will reach the "Teñideros," which is where the river takes its blue color and where the explanation for this curious phenomenon is given. Finishing the tour, we will see the fumaroles which will remind us that we are in an active volcano. The panoramic view that we will have of different points during the tour will allow us to obtain great photographs and memories, nevertheless, it will be considered that we return by the same road in case we lacked some detail to capture. Around 1:00 p.m. we would be finishing the tour, and we will have time to change our clothes if it’s necessary and to get ready to go and have lunch. The estimated time of return will be at 2:30 p.m., taking the road back to San Jose. Around 4:00 p.m., a strategic stop will be made before continuing the trip and closing our adventure to the Celeste River. We will be arriving at our places of departure around 6:30 p.m.
